And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
And he knelt down and cried with a loud voice,
“Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”  (Acts 6:59-60)

December 26 is the memorial of St. Stephen, Martyr and Deacon.  The important part of his prayer is asking Jesus to forgive the sin of the people who are killing him. That is the prayer of a Saint. We need to learn from this, and imitate him, by asking Jesus to forgive people who have hurt or are hurting us. While the lesson or message is simple, it is the carrying out of this which is difficult, but entirely possible. It is however, only possible for us to forgive like this if we have the grace of God within us.
