pour out on us the riches of the spirit
which you bestowed on Saint Margret Mary.
May we come to know the love of Christ,
which surpasses all human understanding,
and be filled with the fullness of God.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.  -Amen

This is the concluding prayer for Vespers on October 16, which is the memorial of Saint Margret Mary Alacoque.  It was to this poor, humble lady, that Jesus chose to reveal in private revelations, His Sacred Heart and called her to make this devotion known to the entire world.  Just as the prayer says, the love of Jesus for the world surpasses all human understanding, but we can still try to understand, and perhaps the best place to start would be to meditate and pray on John 19:34 “But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.”.  Note: The piercing of the Sacred Heart is the very last violent event of the Passion and death of Jesus.

The Son of God loves us so much that he died for us, letting his Sacred Heart be pierced by a spear.
