The Stations of the Cross is one of the most popular devotions in the Catholic tradition of prayer. This application uses the version of the devotion that is based upon the “Biblical Way of the Cross”. The Biblical Way was given to us in 1991 by Pope John Paul the Great, and has been continued by Pope Benedict XVI.  The application has an information page that shows the differences between the “Traditional” and the “Biblical” stations.  The main focus of each of the 14 stations in the Biblical Way is the Gospel passage that informs, inspires and teaches us about these 14 specific moments of time in the life of Jesus.

As of the date of this review the application was at version 1.0, it was released February 23, 2010, one week into Lent.  While I am grateful to have a free application to pray with, this initial version suffers from a small navigation problem. The prayer window must be opened at each station and then closed, before navigating from one station to the next.  Even with this small navigation issue, this is a nice application that provides anyone with an iPhone the ability to pray this wonderful devotion, anywhere and everywhere.

St. Paul teaches us in his 1st letter to the Corinthians (1:23) “But we preach Christ crucified…”. Praying and meditating on the passion, crucifixion and death of Jesus, allows us to learn about and begin to understand this great mystery so that we also can preach Christ crucified.
